EDNA C. HARDY

LAGRANGE -- Edna Creech Hardy died Thursday at her home.

A graveside service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Fairview Cemetery with the Rev. Ben Sims officiating.

Mrs. Hardy was born in Lenoir County on January 17, 1914, and grew up in Wilson. She was preceded in death by her parents, James Madison Creech and Katie Underwood Creech, and her husband of 33 years, Richard Becton Hardy Jr. She taught in the Lenoir County Public Schools for 25 years and she was an active member of the LaGrange United Methodist Church.

She is survived by two sons, Richard Becton Hardy III and his wife, Alice Caviness Hardy, of Raleigh and James Daly Hardy and his wife, Barbara Sutton Hardy, of Wilmington; four grandchildren, Cameron Hardy Ellerbe and Katherine Hardy Connell of Raleigh, Caroline Hardy Lytle of Wilmington and Jamie Sutton Hardy of Cary; a great-granddaughter, Elizabeth Kirkland Ellerbe, and great-grandson, Duncan Cameron Connell; a brother, James Creech of Wilson; two sisters, Magdalene Creech Pace of New Bern and Frances Creech Cox of Stantonsburg.

The family will receive friends following the service Saturday.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to LaGrange United Methodist Church, 213 South Caswell Street, LaGrange, N.C., 28551; or to a charity of one's choice.

Arrangements are by Rouse Funeral Home, LaGrange.
