JESSE GRIMES

PIKEVILLE -- Jesse Floyd Grimes, 79, of 579 Fields Road, died Monday at Wake Medical Center in Raleigh.

The funeral will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Pleasant Grove Free Will Baptist Church with the Rev. Barry Stallings, Dr. Jerry Stevenson and the Rev. Troy Lee officiating. Burial, with Masonic rites, will be in Pikeville Cemetery.

Mr. Grimes was born in Harnett County to the late Delma T. Grimes and Minnie Parrish Grimes. He was a high school teacher in the Wayne County Public Schools for 34 1/2 years, serving 21 years at Charles B. Aycock High School. He was a member of Pleasant Grove Free Will Baptist Church, where he was a deacon and long-time teacher of the Hardy Talton Sunday School Class. He was past master and former treasurer of Harmony Masonic Lodge #340 A.F.&A.M. and was a member of the Scottish Rite. He served in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II.

Mr. Grimes is survived by his wife, Ruth Bayles Grimes; two sons, Jeffrey Miles Grimes of Pikeville and David Thomas Grimes of Goldsboro; a sister, Christine Grimes Coates of Jacksonville, Fla.; and two brothers, Roy Grimes of Newport News, Va., and James Delma Grimes of Coats.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 until 9 at Seymour Funeral Home, and other times at the residence.

Flowers are welcome or memorial donations may be made to the United Daughters of the Confederacy Scholarship Fund, 579 Fields Road, Pikeville, 27863; or to Pleasant Grove Free Will Baptist Church, 1100 Pikeville-Princeton Road, Pikeville, N.C., 27863.
