MARVIN R. JONES SR.

KINSTON -- Marvin Ray Jones Sr., 87, of 1304 Ridge Road, died Friday at his home.

The funeral was held Sunday at 3 p.m. at the First Baptist Church with Dr. Dale Clark officiating. Burial, with full Masonic rites, was in Pinelawn Memorial Park.

Mr. Jones served in the U.S. Army during World War II and the Korean Conflict and retired as plant superintendent with Smith Douglas/Division of Borden Chemicals. Mr. Jones was a member of the First Baptist Church for over 50 years, where he had served as a Sunday school teacher and was a lifetime deacon. He was also a Sunday school teacher of Spilman Bible Class and former lay pastor of Calvary Baptist Church. He was a former member of the Lenoir County Board of Education, a member of Westminster Prayer Group, a Mason with St. John's Lodge, a member of the Kiwanis Club, Toastmasters and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He was the son of the late Isaac and Mollie James Jones and was preceded in death by his sisters, Louise Lanier and Velma Wilson, and his brothers, Ollie Jones and Marshall Jones.

Surviving are his step-mother, Minnie Jones of Richlands; a daughter, Linda J. Holden of Hookerton; a son, Marvin Ray Jones Jr. of Mineral, Va.; two brothers, Raymond Jones of Princeton and Isaac Jones of Richlands; a sister, Frances Riggins of Franklin; and three grandchildren.

The family received friends at the church prior to the funeral service, and other times at the residence.
