MOUNT OLIVE -- Do you have a dill-lightful voice or relish the idea of singing about pickles?
In public?
On stage?
At the 32nd annual North Carolina Pickle Festival?
The pickle song competition is one of the new additions to the festival to be held April 27-29 in Mount Olive.
The lyrics will be posted on the Pickle Festival website, www.ncpicklefest.org, and the festival Facebook page.
While visiting the Facebook page people also can check out all of the other events that will be going on during the festival that is sponsored by the Mount Olive Area Chamber of Commerce, festival Co-chairman Julie Beck said.
"People have until March 30 to make a song, record it on video and post it to a YouTube video that will come up on our page," Beck said. "They have to use our lyrics, but they can use whatever genre music that they want. So we are hoping to get a variety of different kind of genres coming in.
"Once we collect them all, the public will be able to vote for them for the next two weeks (after March 30). The top two vote-getters will be invited to the Pickle Festival to perform their version of that pickle song up on stage. We are going to put in there that any song that is recorded, we have he right to use in promotions or publicity."
Here are the lyrics to the song:
From a tiny seed, of a cuke in the ground
Pickles are the coolest snack around.
Salty pickles -- dive right in! Let that juice dribble down your chin.
Crunchy, green, big or small.
I relish the thought of munching 'em all ... it's them pickles.
Sweet or sour, garlic or dill, just can't wait, to get my fill ... of them pickles.
Growing, brining, tasting's the best, at the North Carolina Pickle Fest.
Gherkins, bread and butter chips, cornichons with those fancy tips
Extra-large or even bumpy -- In a barrel ... go to town!
Take a nibble and bite right down
There's Tour de Pickle on the square, pickle art and a packing comp
Lots of pickle goods to share so come on over and join the romp.
