Fremont announces curfew

The Town of Fremont has instituted a town-wide curfew from 8 p.m. tonight until 6 a.m. Friday, in response to icy road conditions in the town.
The town announced the curfew on its Facebook page early this afternoon, where it asked residents to avoid driving during the curfew time unless absolutely necessary.
Paul Moats, Fremont police chief, said that the curfew is not so strict as to restrict anyone's movement, and is meant as a warning to people who may be thinking of driving.
"This is just for safety, because of road conditions. Some of the local businesses had called and asked about a curfew, because their corporate offices require a curfew to close down early," he said. "We don't want to restrict anyone's freedom, this isn't martial law or anything, we just want to advise people to stay off the road in these conditions."
Moats said that his officers have been advised that the curfew is a "relaxed" one, he said, and said that they will be on the lookout for people seen outside multiple times during the curfew period.
"We're going to be paying attention for anyone out there who may be causing property damage," he said. "Anybody who we see out there a few times, we'll just go talk to and make sure they're okay, and advise them of the unsafe conditions."
The town asked residents to call 911 in the event of an emergency.
