Grantham Elementary, Grantham Middle and Northeast Elementary schools have been closed after suffering utility failures, Wayne County Public Schools announced in an email today.
Grantham Elementary and Grantham Middle are without water after a construction crew working in the area damaged a water line leading to both schools, according to the email.
Northeast is without heat, though the cause is unknown. While WCPS crews are working to fix the issue, freezing temperatures outside have affected the conditions indoors enough to warrant sending students home, according to the email.
Schools across the county opened on a two-hour delay this morning in response to the frigid weather.
This report will be updated as more information becomes available.
