Up to 3 inches of snow could fall across the area Wednesday afternoon and evening. And the frigid temperatures and bitterly low wind chills will continue through the remainder of the week, with the worst expected Thursday night through Saturday.

In some areas, temperatures may not top the freezing mark Thursday or Friday, and lows in the lower teens will be common across the area.

A winter storm watch is in effect from 11 a.m. Wednesday through 7 a.m. Thursday for southern and eastern portions of the coastal plain mainly along and east of Interstate 95 with significant snowfall possible Wednesday afternoon and night.

In the Wayne County area, there is a 50 percent chance of snow after 1 p.m. Wednesday with new snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible. Otherwise the day will be cloudy, with a high near 35 with wind chill values as low as 9 with a north wind of 6 to 8 mph.

Wednesday night there is a 50 percent chance of snow before 1 a.m. New snow accumulation of 1 to 3 inches possible.

Skies will be cloudy, then gradually becoming partly cloudy, with a low around 21. Wind chill values will be as low as 13 with a northwest wind of 7 to 9 mph.
