Due to the frigid temperatures and bitter cold wind chills anticipated in the morning, Wayne County Public Schools will have a two-hour delay tomorrow, Tuesday, January 2.

This message from WCPS communications director Ken Derksen comes as the National Weather Service in Raleigh has issued a wind chill advisory set to take effect at midnight and run through 9 a.m. Tuesday. Temperatures will hover in the teens much of the morning before climbing to an expected high of 32 F late Tuesday afternoon.

The cold morning air will have the added bite of a wind chill factor as low as 3 degrees, however, meaning winds ranging from 8 to 11 mph and gusts expected as high as 23 mph will make the sub-20 degree temperatures feel closer to 0.

Some forecasts show as much as a 60 percent chance of snow on Wednesday.
