The Small Business Center at Wayne Community College offers free seminars, as well as access to business resources and confidential counseling to aspiring or continuing entrepreneurs.
The Small Business Center at Wayne Community College offers free seminars, as well as access to business resources and confidential counseling to aspiring or continuing entrepreneurs.
The seminars focus on some of the basics -- writing a business plan, financing a business, legalities, marketing and recordkeeping.
The spring 2018 seminars have been announced. While there is no charge associated with them, pre-registration is recommended. That can be done by calling 919-739-6940 or online at www.ncsbc.net.
• Time and Stress Management for Small Business Owners will be offered Monday, Jan. 8, 1-4 p.m. in Walnut 101. Participants will learn methods of handling and reducing stress, as well as recognizing time wasters.
• Boots to Business, for active duty military, their dependents and veterans, will be offered several times -- Jan. 9-10, March 6-7 and May 8-9, 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. in Walnut 104.
•How to Find Your Customers by Helping Them Find You, Monday, Jan. 22, 1-4 p.m. in Walnut 101, explores print, broadcast, social media, website, telemarketing and ways to successfully reach customer groups.
•Small Business Programs, Set Asides and Limitations on Subcontracting: Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2-4 p.m. in Walnut 101, focuses on small business in the federal market and the process to leverage small business status as a prime or subcontractor in government contracting.
•Identify and Avoiding Threats to Your Business: Tuesday, Feb. 27, 6-9 p.m., Walnut 101, assists in learning how to determine potential threats, avoid them and insure the success and sustainability of your business.
•How to Start a Home-Based Business: Tuesday, March 20, 5-7 p.m. in Walnut 101, includes legal requirements, finding your niche and developing a business plan.
•Facebook Step by Step: How it Can Help Your Small Business: Thursday, April 12, 6-9 p.m., Walnut 101, covers using keywords strategically and optimizing the "info" tab
•Understanding Financial Statements: Tuesday, April 17, 6-9 p.m., Walnut 101, covers calculating and recording payroll taxes and sales tax and hands-on experience preparing financial statements
•Finance Options for Small Business: Thursday, April 19, 12-2 p.m., Walnut 101, on overview of financing for new or existing business
