The town of Fremont will hold its first-ever Christmas Tree lighting event Dec. 1, the town Board of Aldermen announced at its meeting Tuesday.
Jamillah Scott, with the Fremont finance department, said that the event is designed to shake things up a bit during the holiday season.
"It's something new to do for the town, to bring a more inclusive thing for everybody," she said. "People are used to just seeing the lights already be up, so this is just something we can all do together as a town."
The event will begin at 6 p.m., at the corner of Main Street and Goldsboro Street. There will be hot chocolate, pictures with Santa and Christmas carols sung by town staff and other guests. Mayor Darron Flowers will light the tree.
The event has no definite end time, Scott said, and attendees are welcome to gather as long as there are people still around. For more information, call Fremont town hall at 919-242-5151.
