Wayne County Public Schools will host its annual holiday showcase this week at Goldsboro High School.

The districtwide event spans three nights -- Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday -- featuring a different lineup of schools for each performance.

This marks the 17th year for the event, officials said. The first year, 2001, 12 schools participated. It has grown to its present size, with 27 schools taking part this year.

"This is a very special event that our schools and community look forward to each year," said Kim Copeland, director specialist. "Our students and music directors have spent several weeks preparing for their performances. We are excited to showcase the musical talents of our students and provide audience members with three fun-filled evenings of seasonal cheer."

The following schools will be performing each evening.

On Tuesday, the lineup will include Charles B. Aycock High, Northeast Elementary, Northwest Elementary, Norwayne Middle and Rosewood elementary, middle and high schools.

Wednesday's participants will be Carver Heights Elementary, Dillard Middle, Eastern Wayne elementary, middle and high schools, Edgewood Community Developmental School, Goldsboro High, Greenwood Middle and Meadow Lane, North Drive and Tommy's Road elementary schools.

Thursday schools will be Brogden Primary, Carver Elementary, Grantham Elementary, Grantham Middle, Mount Olive Middle, Southern Wayne High and Spring Creek elementary, middle and high schools.

Doors open at 5:30 p.m. each day and the programs start at 6 p.m. Admission is $5 per person, with proceeds to benefit the choral programs at the participating schools. Children under 5 years old are admitted free of charge.

There will be designated parking areas and entrances for the event.

Parents of elementary school choral students are asked to use the Beech Street parking lot. Parents of middle and high school choral students need to use the Herman Street parking lots. Community members and others are welcome to use any of the GHS parking lots. Guests may enter the building through the side doors along Beech Street closest to the GHS main office.
