The Goldsboro City Council approved a $671,350 contract Monday that will result in the construction of a concessions stand at the future multisport complex along Oak Forest Road.

The city is contracting the work with Daniels and Daniels Construction, which will build a 4,800-square-foot concessions stand and restroom facility in the complex.

The city also recently entered into a financing agreement of $520,000 to complete the installation of field lights and a $935,165 contract to install two synthetic artificial turf fields. The projects are part of the ongoing development of the 62-acre sporting complex, planned to open in March 2018.

Also during the council's Monday meeting, a $105,080 contract with Barnhill Contracting Co. was approved. The contract includes the addition of a greenway trail behind Wayne Community College and Wayne UNC Health Care and will be paid for with grant funds.

The gravel trail, which will cost $93,530, will intersect with the multiuse path along New Hope Road and extend behind the college and hospital. The contract includes the paving of the parking lot at Mina Weil Park, at a $11,500 cost.

The council also approved a $5,000 grant toward the Civil War living history weekend, planned April 6-8, for the 135th U.S. Colored Troop.

Costs for compost and mulch sold at the city's compost facility, on North Center Street, were also changed by the council.

The cost of compost is increased from $8 to $9 per cubic yard for quantities over 20 cubic yards and $15 per cubic yard for bulk compost.  The cost of mulch is reduced from $8 to $6 per cubic yard.
