Wayne County 4-H Shooting Sports sweeps state, regional competition

Members of the Wayne County 4-H Shooting Sports Club, coached by AJ Linton, recently competed in regional and state tournaments.
The regional tournament was held at the Eastern 4-H Center in Columbia, and the state tournament was held at Millstone 4-H Camp in Ellerbe.
Over 300 youth from 41 counties participated in the state tournament held on Sept. 23. Competitive events were offered in eight disciplines -- .22 rifle, shotgun, blackpowder, air rifle, air pistol, small bore pistol, compound archery and recurve archery.
Wayne County was represented by 10 participants who brought home top honors in several categories.
The Wayne County 4-H Shooting Sports Club meets monthly and serves youth ages 9 to 18. It concentrates on teaching youth marksmanship, gun safety, and leadership skills . * Chris Cerny won second place Sr. Air Rifle Team, fourth place on the Sr. Air Pistol Team in the state competition. Cerny won first place on the Sr. Air Pistol Team, third place in the Sr. Overall Individual Air Pistol, second place on the Sr. Air Rifle Team and fourth place on the Sr. Blackpowder Team in regional competition.
* Collin Williams won fourth place on the Sr. Blackpowder Team in the regional competition.
* Isaac Linton won first place Jr. Overall Individual Recurve Archery, first place Jr. Overall Individual Air Pistol, first place Jr. Air Pistol Team, second place Jr. Air Rifle Team in state competition. Linton won second place Jr. Individual Recurve Archery, third place Jr. Individual Blackpowder, second place Jr. Air Pistol Team, second place Jr. Overall Individual Air Pistol and second place Jr. Air Rifle Team in regional competition.
* Zaida Hinnant won fourth place Jr. Individual Air Pistol in state competition and fourth place Jr. Air Pistol Team and third place Jr. Air Rifle Team in regional competion.
* Ashlan Hinnant won fourth place Jr. Air Pistol Team, third place Jr. Air Rifle Team in regional competition.
* Daniel Dunn won second place Sr. Air Rifle Team and fourth place Sr. Air Pistol Team in state competition. Dunn won first place Sr. Air Pistol Team, second place Sr. Air Rifle Team and fourth place Sr. Blackpowder Team in regional competition.
* Amanda Edmundson won second place Sr. Air Rifle Team and fourth place Sr. Air Pistol Team in state competition. Edmundson won first place Sr. Air Pistol Team, second place Sr. Air Rifle Team, fourth place Sr. Overall Individual Air Rifle and fourth place Sr. Blackpowder Team in regional competition.
* Jacob Daniels won first place Jr. Air Pistol Team, second place Jr. Air Rifle Team and fifth place Jr. Individual Match Rifle in state competition.
