Veterans Health Fair slated for Nov. 15

The Goldsboro Community Based Outpatient Clinic at 2610 Hospital Road will hold its annual Veterans Health Fair Nov. 15, inviting veterans to come and learn about services available to them through Veterans Affairs.
Beginning at 8 a.m. and running until noon, the health fair will feature presenters from a wide variety of veterans health organizations as well as general public safety demonstrations. The fair is designed to help veterans get a handle on what the VA can offer them, said telehealth clinical technician Tiffanie Fuston.
"It's about health and well-being for veterans, trying to show what the VA has to offer," she said. "The fire department and police department will also be out there, doing fire safety and gun safety classes."
Those are just two of the more than a dozen guests who will be available at the fair. Veterans will be able to learn about signing up with the VA, specific medical services and a wide variety of volunteer organizations committed to helping veterans get the most out of the services available to them.
A few specific opportunities for veterans include representatives from Disabled American Veterans, Volunteers of America and several staff members from the clinic itself.
Fuston said that this year's event is the clinic's third. Participation in the second year was down from the first, so the clinic is hoping to see improved turnout when the fair rolls around this year.
"This is a great opportunity, a great way to promote what the VA has to offer," she said. "It's opened up to all veterans to come and learn what kinds of things are available to them."
