As the $20 million Maxwell Regional Agricultural and Convention Center moves toward its March 1 opening the public is being offered the opportunity to leave its mark on the facility.

A fundraiser is underway in which laser-etched brick pavers are being sold.

"There were many people in the community that wanted to be a part of this historic project and the brick pavers gives them the opportunity to be remembered for generations to come," said James Wade Jr., venue director and general manager of the Maxwell Center.

'This is a great way for County of Wayne residents to remember someone close or to make their family or group be a part of something new and exciting."

The pavers are a great way to add the name of family, loved one, team, church group, recent or upcoming graduate, business, etc. to a permanent and everlasting section of the Maxwell Center courtyard, he said.

The pavers are available in three options:

* 4-inch x 8-inch brick with three lines of text, 20 characters per line for $125.

* 8-inch x 8-inch brick with six lines of text, 20 characters per line for $250.

* 8 x 8-inch brick with a corporate logo for $500.

Checks should be made payable to the Maxwell Center and mailed to the Maxwell Center, P.O. Box 227. Goldsboro, N.C., 27533.

The pavers are available for order at www.FundRaisingBrick.com/MaxwellCenter.

Plans include stretching the March grand opening across four days with a mix of both public and private events.

The idea is to ensure that different groups and demographics have the opportunity to see what the center will have to offer.

Wade, who was hired last May, oversees the rental or west side of the center that is actually made up of two areas.

The east side is the office area that will house the Cooperative Extension Service, Farm Service Agency, Natural Resources Conservation Service and Wayne County Soil and Water. Kevin Johnson, Wayne County Extension Service director, will oversee that area.

The center, located at 3114 N. Wayne Memorial Drive, will be 1.5 acres under roof, and its assembly hall will seat 800 in a banquet setting and more than 1,500 when set up for a speaker.

It will hold 70 booths for a trade show or similar event.
