Public meetings will look at rezoning

Wayne County commissioners Tuesday morning will hold public hearings on two rezoning requests.
The meeting will get underway with an 8 a.m. agenda briefing followed by the formal session at 9 a.m. Both will be held in the commissioners' meeting room on the fourth floor of the Wayne County Courthouse Annex.
The public hearings will start at 9:15 a.m.
The first will be on the proposed rezoning of a 0.65-acre tract of land from Residential Agricultural 20 to Residential-10. The developer proposes four residential lots.
The second hearing will be on rezoning a 19.76-acre tract Light Industry and Residential Agricultural 20 to Residential Agricultural 30. The developer proposes residential uses.
In other business Tuesday, commissioners will hear presentations by:
* Carol Bowden, the county's director of public affairs, on the "Step Into the Max" campaign for the new agricultural and convention center.
* SHIIP Coordinator Selena Beaman on Medicare D open enrollment.
* Victor Hinnant, North Carolina Commerce regional former offender director.
* Finance Director Allison Speight on the county's quarterly financial for fiscal year 2017-2018 through Sept. 30 and on the county's quarterly financial statement through the same period.
Also, commissioners will be updated on the Canterbury Village street improvements project and will announce that the county will receive $150,000 in federal funds for the Wayne County Jetport. The local match will be $16,667.
