The Goldsboro City Council will consider approving a $489,883 street repaving contract Monday that would lead to new roadways along Humphrey and Dakota streets in the city.

Barnhill Contracting Co., of Kinston, submitted the lowest bid for the project, which includes the addition of 6,000-square-yards of pavement along Humphrey Street, from Fourth to Eighth streets, and along Dakota Street, from Aycock to Fourth streets.

The city will use $415,000 in street bond revenues and $75,000 from city fund balance reserves to pay for the project.

The other two bids the city received for the project include Hines Sitework, at $549,750, and the S.T. Wooten Construction Co., at $784,675. Barnhill Contracting is recommended for the project.

Also during the meeting, the council will review a $125,900 contract with AK Grading and Demolition, of LaGrange, for the abatement and demolition of 22 condemned properties on the city's list for the current fiscal year.

The properties planned for demolition include 306 N. Carolina St., 809, 810 and 812 Crawford St., 512 Dail St., 615 Devereaux St., 411 Grantham St., 113 Kornegay St., 204 W. Oak St., 1113 Olivia Lane, 810 Poplar St., 508 Roberts St., 210 Slocumb St., 309, 317 and 325 Whitfield Drive, and 306, 409, 417, 419, 511 and 517 Wayne Ave.

AK Grading is recommended for the project, after submitting the lowest bid. Also bidding on the project were Mitch Contracting Co., in Fairview, at $233,499, and Carolina Envirotech, in Mooresville, at $289,000.

Also during the meeting, the council will consider approving:

* Site and demolition plans for the future 99,324-square-foot Meadow Lane Elementary School, at 3500 E. Ash Street, near Seymour Johnson Air Force Base.

* Site plans for the addition of a 5,040-square-foot modular building, which includes space for six classrooms, at Tommy's Road Elementary School, 1150 Tommy's Road.

* A conditional-use permit for McIntyre Funeral Home to operate a funeral home on Royall Avenue, in a 5,068-square-foot building, near Audubon Avenue.
