The Boy Scouts are holding a Friends of Scouting event Thursday on behalf of the Tuscarora Council.
It will be held at noon at the Walnut Creek Country Club.
The featured speaker will be Eric Montross, a former star center for the University of North Carolina basketball team.
Support received from donors at the event, in addition to being tax deductible, provides an opportunity for supporters to back a character building program.
"These kids will never know our name, but they will become our future leaders," said Council President Steve Moore.
The mission of the Boy Scouts of America is to prepare boys to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Scout Law.
In 2016, the Tuscarora Council celebrated its 94th anniversary.
The council had 97 youth earn the rank of Eagle Scout, 1,725 youth advanced in rank, there were 3,226 merit badges earned, 2,263 youth had an outdoor experience at camp, Scouts conducted more than 14,000 community service hours and provided an outstanding experience to more than 3,600 youth in the community.
The council was rated tops in the Southern Region and fourth in the nation.
Proceeds from the Friends of Scouting luncheon will be used to support the council's camp and programs. This includes needed improvements to Camp Tuscarora.
