A 74-year-old man was taken to Wayne UNC Health Care emergency department Friday night after walking into the path of car.
The victim was identified as Carlos Trevino, 74, of 1653 SW Second Way, Okeechobee, Florida.
Wayne UNC Health Care officials said that Trevino is not a patient at the hospital and that they did not have any other information.
Police said the accident happened shortly after 9 p.m. near the intersection of East Ash Street and Daisy Street.
Police said that the driver of the car, Teresa Hill Horne, 64, of 1690 N.C. 581, Pikeville, told them that she did not see Trevino until after he had been struck and was falling off the hood of her car.
He fell in front of the vehicle and was dragged about 18 feet, police said.
Ms. Horne said Trevino was hard to see because he was wearing dark clothing and because of the lighting conditions.
No charges have been filed.
