Sheriff's Office investigates two homicides over weekend

DUDLEY -- The Wayne County Sheriff's Office is investigating a murder that happened Sunday night on Arrowhead Road.
David Demarlo Thompson, 35, of 109 Arrowhead Road, was found in his backyard suffering from several gunshot wounds around 9:30 p.m. when deputies responded to a shots fired call at the address, according to a press release.
Wayne County EMS responded and Thompson died from his injuries as they were taking him to the hospital, the release said.
Det. Carlos Lilly is investigating Thompson's death.
Sunday's homicide marks the second of the weekend.
A member of security staff at Maynard's Night Club was assaulted and killed Saturday night by two men he was escorting out of the club.
The security staff member, 49-year-old Michael Ray Brinkley, of Kinston, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities arrested Jerry Wayne Anthony Chandler, 32, and Dustin Steve Kirk, 27, and charged them each with murder in connection to the homicide.
