Camp Kilowatt is returning this summer to Wayne Community College, marking its ninth year.

The popular energy camp, for middle and high school students, will explore STEM -- science, technology, engineering and math -- areas including electronics, robotics and rapid prototyping/additive manufacturing, as well as alternative energy.

Students entering fifth through eighth grade and rising ninth- through 12th-graders are invited to apply for this year's camp, which will be held July 10-13, 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. each day.

The camp is limited to 50 participants and will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Registration forms and information can be found at www.waynecc.edu/campkilowatt.

The fee is $100 for those signing up before May 11 and includes lunches and a T-shirt. From May 11-25, the cost is $125 and covers lunches but not a T-shirt.

If finances are a concern, some scholarships are available. Contact Camp Director Steven Reese at srreese@waynecc.edu or 919-739-6802.

Camp Kilowatt is a product of the college's Applied Technologies Division and is financially supported by the Duke Energy Foundation.

WCC also encourages persons with disabilities to participate in its programs.
