High school seniors in Wayne, Duplin and Lenoir counties are invited to apply for one of 215 Golden LEAF college scholarships available for the 2017-2018 school year.

The awards, valued at $12,000, or $3,000 per year for up to four years, are being offered to first-time recipients attending a qualifying campus in the state.

The scholarships are funded by a grant from the Golden LEAF Foundation and administered by the N.C. State Education Assistance Authority.

To be considered, applicants must be currently enrolled in a North Carolina public or private high school or community college; enroll for the fall as a full-time degree-seeking freshman or transfer from a state community college at one of the 57 qualifying public universities or private colleges and universities; be a state resident with a permanent address in one of the 79 qualifying rural counties; demonstrate financial need by submitting the FAFSA, or Free Application for Federal Student Aid, and a Golden LEAF scholarship application along with transcript.

The deadline to apply is March 1.
