The Kmart at 201 N. Berkeley Blvd. is closing.

Employees at the store were informed of the closing Wednesday morning.

Kmart and Sears stores are owned by Sears Holding Co. that Wednesday morning told employees at 78 Kmarts and 26 Sears stores across the country that the stores would be closing this spring.

The Goldsboro Sears store was not on the closure list, a company spokesperson said.

Liquidation sales will begin as early as January 6, at all closing stores including the five being shut down in North Carolina

A sign on the Goldsboro store's front door Wednesday said that no new lay-a-ways would be accepted after Jan. 4.

A press release on the closing did not mention the fate of the Sears auto shop located at the Kmart store.
