A Fayetteville man is in custody in Cumberland County after breaking in to a Goldsboro man's office area, according to a Wayne County Sheriff's Office press release.

According to the release, a resident of Yearling Drive noticed a light in his office area located behind his home on August 24. The light appeared to be coming from a flashlight.

The resident went to investigate the light, where he found 59-year-old Sammy Edward Floyd Jr., of 6226 Penfield Drive, wearing a white hat and holding a bag containing the resident's property, according to the report.

When Floyd saw the homeowner, he dropped the bag and fled, losing his hat in the process. The homeowner pursued him, but when he caught up to the intruder, Floyd reportedly told the homeowner that he had a knife and to step back.

As Floyd left in a Chevrolet truck, the homeowner was able to document his license plate number, which he provided to the Sheriff's Office. Based on that, detectives were able to eventually locate Floyd, who was already in custody at the Cumberland County Detention Center on charges of breaking and entering, larceny and possession of stolen goods.

Sheriff's Office Maj. Tom Effler said that the WCSO sent their warrants for breaking and entering and larceny after breaking and entering to the Cumberland County authorities.
