Man flees police in vehicle chase

A 24-year-old man was arrested for allegedly driving while impaired after reportedly leading a Wayne County Sheriff's Deputy with the DWI Task Force on a chase down Elm Street Friday night that exceeded speeds of 80 miles per hour.

Tyre Raheem Vaughn, 24, of 212 N. Hereford Drive Apt. G, Dudley, was arrested and charged with felony flee to elude, DWI, careless and reckless, open container, speeding and no operators license after reportedly leading the deputy with the DWI Task Force on a chase down Elm Street that began when the deputy tried to pull him over on Herman Street.

According to a press release from the Wayne County Sheriff's Office, the deputy activated his blue lights behind a car on Herman Street just before 11 p.m. Friday night on the suspicion of the driver being intoxicated.

Instead of stopping, the driver of the car reportedly fled and led deputies on a chase that reached speeds of more than 80 miles per hour on Elm Street and ended when Vaughn reportedly hit a curb and wrecked his vehicle near Seymour Johnson Air Force Base.

Vaughn was arrested without resistance and reportedly had a blood alcohol content of .21.

Vaughn was placed in the Wayne County Jail and given a $3,000 secured bond.
