A LaGrange man was reportedly assaulted on North Spence Avenue Saturday night after striking up a conversation with several people he approached while walking.
Kevin Patrick Gayle, 33, told police he was walking on the property of 900 N. Spence Ave. Saturday night around 10:45 p.m. when he saw a group of two or three people and began talking to them.
According to a report on the incident, an unknown person struck Gayle in the face shortly after he began the conversation with the group, which caused a "severe laceration" to Gayle's lip, the report says.
After Gayle was allegedly struck, the unknown people left the area. Gayle told police he believed it was a black male with dreadlocks that struck him, but that he could give no further details because he was intoxicated.
Gayle was taken to Wayne Memorial Hospital for treatment.
