This year the big yellow school bus will be parked in the News-Argus parking lot on Berkeley Blvd. on Friday, Aug. 5, from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m.
Drop off supplies and monetary donations that day or in advance inside the newspaper office.
The first effort took place in 2004, as a way to support Wayne County Public Schools and provide supplies for students and help them be more successful in class.
Communities in Schools of Wayne County receives requests throughout the year, in middle and high school as well as the younger grades. Donations generated through Stuff the Bus help offset some of those needs.
Selena Bennett, CIS executive director, coordinates with the district to respond to the requests. Social workers and counselors also help in getting supplies in the hands of students most in need.
Among the items on the list of requests are paper, pens, pencils and erasers, crayons, binders, composition notebooks, spiral notebooks, colored pencils, glue sticks, and bookbags, for younger students as well as sturdier versions for older grades.
Schools resume next month. Goldsboro High School, Wayne School of Engineering and Wayne Early/Middle College High School start Aug. 8. Classes in the district's traditional schools start Aug. 29.
