Plans to add a Harris Teeter gas station along Wayne Memorial Drive will move forward following a site plan approval by the Goldsboro Planning Commission Monday.
The commission voted to recommend the project to the Goldsboro City Council, which will review the plans for final approval during its July 18 meeting.
Harris Teeter is interested in adding a seven-pump gas station on Wayne Memorial Drive, near the U.S. 70 exit on a 1.38-acre property where the Days Inn was located before the hotel was demolished.
The 24-hour gas station will be next to the Waffle House and access is proposed from Wayne Memorial Drive and through the Memorial Commons, alongside the Employment Security Commission.
Site plans show a fuel center with a green metal canopy, which matches the design and color of the nearby Harris Teeter grocery store.
The gas station is one of several being added in North Carolina, following Harris Teeter's move to open its first fuel center in South Carolina in 2015.
The planning commission also recommended to council site plans for a new 9,026-square-foot Dollar General store on Belfast Road, between Salem Church Road and Interstate 795.
The commission also approved for recommendation a 33,420-square-foot Cherry Hospital maintenance facility, on West Ash Street, and site plans for a funeral home at 708 S. Slocumb St. The planning board decided to require the addition of a vinyl fence on a portion of the property located alongside several homes.
The city council will consider the recommendations during its July 18 meeting.
