Traffic stop results in drug arrest

PIKEVILLE -- A recent traffic stop at 101 N. Goldsboro St. led to a drug arrest and the seizure of a handgun and nine bags of heroin.
Pikeville police Det. S.R. Jarman stopped a car being operated by Derrik Quantel Cox, 21, of 906 S. Goldsboro St., Fremont.
Police said that Cox was known to law enforcement because of prior drug investigations.
Members of the Wayne County Sheriff's Office's Aggressive Criminal Enforcement Team assisted with the traffic stop.
Deputy Corporal Doug Honeycutt and his K-9, Ory, were called to the scene where Ory indicated there were drugs in the car.
A search of the car turned up a Kel-Tec .32 caliber handgun and nine bags of heroin.
Cox was charged with possession of a firearm by a felon and possession with intent to sell and deliver heroin.
He was jailed under a $12,000 secured bond.
