Rescue divers give information to an investigator.

A dead body was found floating in the Little River late Saturday afternoon, with several law enforcement agencies responding to the scene.

The location was on the north side of the Little River at Claridge Nursery Road and U.S. 70 West.

"The only thing I know about this is two young men fishing in the river discovered a body floating in the river," said Sheriff Larry Pierce.

He said he was notified around 4:30 p.m., estimating the discovering had happened a few minutes earlier.

Officers with the Goldsboro Police Department initially arrived on scene, until it was determined to be in the jurisdiction of the county, the sheriff said.

Other responders involved in the investigation included the Rosewood Fire Department, the Wayne County Sheriff's Office Dive Team and the Arr-Mac Water Response Team.

Little was known about the identify of the deceased or the contributing factors that led to the death. "Right now we're in the process of recovering the body and processing the scene," Pierce told The News-Argus.
