Park ranger Autumn Kahl helps Preston Hatch, 6, put on a mesh vest to represent a frog's water permeable skin, allowing water to travel through it, during the classroom learning portion of the International Save the Frogs Day event. Preston also wore a sock on his hand to represent a frog's webbed toes, a thermometer to represent a frog being cold blooded, and antiseptic ointment for the healing properties in their skin secretions. At the end of the demonstration he was given a blowout noisemaker to represent the frog tongue.

The learning portion of the International Save the Frogs event Saturday at Cliffs of the Neuse State Park taught some of the threats to frogs and some of the benefits frogs can provide. Children were invited to the pond behind the visitors center for frog spotting at the end of the program.
