A town hall-style meeting originally scheduled for last week to enlist the public's input on finding a new president for Wayne Community College has been rescheduled for next week.

The public is invited to the meeting on Wednesday, Feb. 24, in Room 101 of the Walnut Building at WCC.

The board of trustees is encouraging community members to weigh in on the qualities they would like to see on the college's next president.

Dr. Kay Albertson, currently the president, will retire Aug. 1. It is the local board's responsibility to hire her replacement, subject to the approval of the State Board of Community Colleges. The board of trustees recently chose N.C. Association of Community College Trustees President Search Services to assist with the search.

Chris Martin, board chair, said the public is invited to speak to the board on the traits and characteristics that should be considered for the new administrator.

"Comments will be considered as a profile is developed for our presidential search committee and the board to use as it does its work."

To facilitate the flow of the meeting, the committee released a few guidelines for public comments.

Statements need to be as brief as possible, with each speaker allowed three minutes to talk.

Participants are also asked to consider the future, not the past, and share suggestions that complete the statement, "What we really need going forward is...."

Comments can also be submitted in writing for those unable to attend the session. Statements should be limited to approximately 300 words. Send them to Presidential Search Committee, c/o Tara Humphries, P.O. Box 8002, Goldsboro, N.C. 27533-8002 or tarah@waynecc.edu.

Persons with disabilities are also encouraged to participate. Anyone needing accommodations or having questions about access is urged to contact the college's Disability Services Counselor at 919-739-6729 or lbcowan@waynecc.edu.
