Wayne County Sheriff's Office deputies responding to an alarm at a convenience store in the area of N.C. Highway 111 N. and St. John's Church Road were able to catch a suspect inside the store, early Friday.

Randy Chester Parsons, 53, 917 A Hood Swamp Road, is charged with felony larceny, misdemeanor larceny and possession of stolen goods. He was placed in the Wayne County Detention Center under a $5,000 secured bond.

According to a press release, a report of a suspicious person outside the Stoney Creek Food Mart at 2043 N.C. 111 N came in early Friday. At 1:43 a.m., while a deputy was en route to the store, an alarm sounded from inside the business.

Deputy Martin McAlduff arrived on scene and saw someone was inside the store. Additional "D-shift" units responded and Parsons was taken into custody without incident.

Among the stolen items recovered were an undisclosed amount of cash, eight cartons of cigarettes and 11 cans of soup. A cash register was also recovered near the business, according to the press release. The total estimated value of the property recovered is listed on the report at $750.
