The man police say shot and killed an acquaintance of his in a car parked in the Jefferson Court Apartments Sunday is in custody today.

Yquan Dashay Holloman, 19, 600 C E. Holly St., is charged with an open count of murder in the shooting death of Diamond Monrtrece Sampson, 22.

Police found Sampson dead in his own vehicle at 10:50 p.m. Sunday. Twenty-four hours later, they had the suspect in custody.

"Everything went according to plan," Maj. Anthony Carmon said.

Police found Holloman at 9:53 p.m. Monday in a neighbor's apartment at 606 B E. Holly St., and took him into custody without incident.

Holloman will be taken before a Wayne County magistrate later today and held in the Wayne County Detention Center without bond, a press release said. A first appearance in Wayne County District Court is also scheduled for today.

Holloman was unarmed when taken into custody. However, the murder weapon has been recovered, Carmon said.

He also said Holloman and Sampson were known acquaintances.

"They were considered friends. There are several theories right now as to what led to (the shooting). We are still working the case," Carmon said.

Cooperation within the department as well as tips from Crime Stoppers helped bring things to a close swiftly and safely, Carmon added.

"It was a team effort throughout the department -- patrol, vice, the housing unit -- were all instrumental," he said.

He also thanked the community for its willingness to come forward with information.

"I think it is paramount. The cooperation within the department and with the community is really what made this case work."
