Wayne Pregnancy Care Center will host its first annual Heroes Run for Life 5K run and one-mile walk this Saturday.
The fundraiser will be held at Walnut Creek, with registration at 7 a.m. followed by the run/walk at 8.
"The Run for Life 5K run, one-mile fun walk gives everyone a practical way to show they care about unborn children, their mothers and their families," WPCC Executive Director Beverly Weeks said. "It is also an excellent time to raise awareness and appreciation for God's precious gift of life."
Sponsored walkers will be raising support for the center's ongoing free services, which include pregnancy testing, limited ultrasounds, information on such topics as STDs, abstinence, pregnancy, adoption and abortion risks and procedures.
Clothing, furnishings and resources for mother and baby are also available through the baby boutique.
The center also offers support groups, including a post abortion healing support group, Bible studies and numerous other classes and workshops designed to offer support, encouragement and directions to mothers and fathers in the community.
In addition to the walk, it will be a family day, Mrs. Weeks said, with music, face painting and food also available.
"The rewards for walking are the lives you will be saving and helping through this ministry," she said. "There are tangible rewards as well."
Walkers with pledges and contributions of $100 or more are eligible for prizes that are have been donated by local businesses. Children and teens that have the most sponsors and the most pledges are also eligible for prizes.
