Fourteen new reports of vehicle break-ins filed Sunday with the Goldsboro Police Department bring the total number of break-ins at the Legacy at Berkeley Place Apartments to 21 since March 31.
Each of the 14 cars that were broken into between Saturday night and Sunday morning was entered by breaking out the glass of the passenger or driver's side windows.
The break-ins are the third in an apparent series of connected break-ins. The first round took place March 31, then was followed up a day later with two more vehicle break-ins reported.
Other instances of three or more cars broken into in one evening have been reported in other areas of the city since then, but it is difficult to link cases without direct evidence. Investigators are not yet prepared to say definitively that the cases are connected.
"It is a little early to say that," newly appointed Commander of Investigations Maj. Anthony Carmon said.
"They happened in the same place, using the same modus operandi or 'M.O.,'" he said.
So far those are the only factors to connect the break-ins.
Patrol officers have been advised to step up their presence in the afflicted areas.
