The owner of four pit bulls that got loose and attacked a 71-year-old woman in the early morning hours of June 25 will face misdemeanor charges, according to the Wayne County Sheriff's Office.

Terry Tremain Butler, 35, 112 Country Run Lane, is charged with one count each of animals causing a disturbance and allowing dogs to run at large.

Butler was placed in the Wayne County Jail Friday under a $1,000 secured bond.

The four pit bulls belonging to Butler allegedly got loose at about 6:45 a.m. June 25. The dogs went into the yard of Mildred Game, 114 Country Run Lane, and attacked her while she was watering her garden.

Mrs. Game's own pit bull, Diamond, escaped from a gated porch and came to her owner's rescue.

Diamond chased the dogs back to their own yard, but was severely injured in the fight.

A neighbor leaving for work spotted Mrs. Game lying injured in her front yard and called 911.

The Wayne County Sheriff's Office and Wayne County EMS arrived to the scene and were approached by two of the four pit bulls that allegedly attacked Mrs. Game.

A deputy shot and wounded one of the dogs.

Wayne County Animal Control arrived moments later and euthanized both the animal that had been shot and Mrs. Game's dog, Diamond.

Mrs. Game was taken first to Wayne Memorial Hospital, then transferred to Vidant Medical Center where she underwent several hours of surgery.

According to the press release issued Friday by the Wayne County Sheriff's Office, Mrs. Game is still a patient at Vidant Medical Center. Her last known condition was listed as fair.

Butler is due to appear in Wayne County District Court Aug. 6 during the afternoon session.
