Suspect arrested in Friday shooting

A Goldsboro man has been charged and another suspect is on the loose following two shootings on William Street in Goldsboro Friday morning and early Saturday morning.
The two shootings happened a block away from each other at the south end of William Street.
The Goldsboro Police Department charged Steve Alan Simelton Jr., 26, of 708 Corporate Drive, Room 252, with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury in connection with the Friday shooting of a Goldsboro woman in the leg at an apartment in the 400 block of South William Street.
Police arrived on scene to the shots fired call where witnesses directed them to the apartment that the alleged shooter and victim were in.
According to the Goldsboro police report, Simelton was found behind an apartment trying to scale a wall to evade police when he was arrested.
Simelton also has been charged with misdemeanor damage to property.
He has been placed in the Wayne County Jail under a $50,000 secured bond.
The victim was found in the apartment by police and transported to Wayne Memorial Hospital for treatment.
About 3 a.m. Saturday, a Goldsboro man was shot by an unknown assailant in the 300 block of South William Street.
The victim was transported to Wayne Memorial Hospital for treatment.
A man on Spruce Street also reported hearing a loud crack Saturday around 3 a.m.
After finding no damage, he then returned to bed.
Around 3 p.m. Saturday, he reported that he found a bullet hole on the exterior of his home.
The bullet passed through a wall and damaged a couch inside the residence.
The bullet was not recovered.
