A Seven Springs man died early this morning when the mo-ped he was driving crossed the center line and collided with an oncoming car, the N.C. State Highway Patrol said.
The accident took place just after 1:30 a.m. on N.C. Highway 111 South near Slick Rock Road.
Howard Musick, 52, of Ada Stroud Road in Seven Springs, died at the scene, 1st Sgt. Gerry Burton said.
The name of the driver of the vehicle Musick collided with has not been released. Burton said the man was from Pikeville and was on his way home from work.
Wayne County EMS and firefighters from the El-Roy Volunteer Fire Department responded, shutting down N.C. 111 South for more than two hours.
Musick was wearing his helmet, and speed was not a factor. It is too early to determine if any other factors such as alcohol might have contributed to the accident, Burton said.
The victim's body has been sent to the Chief Medical Examiner's Office in Chapel Hill for autopsy. No charges will be filed against the other driver.
