Wayne County's Realtors will battle it out at a blood drive May 27 for bragging rights.
The first ever Goldsboro Board of Realtors Blood Drive Challenge will be held from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Board of Realtors office at 1108 E. Ash St.
"The association and Servpro, a cleaning company, do things in our community," said Goldsboro Board of Realtors association director Melinda Greene. "Each year, Servpro tries to get a blood drive together. This year, we decided to get involved, too."
Red Cross senior donor recruitment representative Kimberly Berrier said it's a friendly competition among the local Realtors.
"We asked the Realtors to reach out to their office employees, customer base and anyone they do business with. The donors will come in that day and there will be a special sign-up sheet for them."
Ms. Greene said the realty company that gets the most donors receives a special plaque to keep for a year.
"The day of the blood drive, we'll ask each donor who referred them," she said.
"We decided to make it a blood drive challenge because it seems to get more people involved if there's a competition. We hope to make this an annual thing."
The day of the blood drive, local Realtors will float in and out of the event, Ms. Greene said.
The goal is 28 units.
Ms. Berrier said this blood drive comes at a good time, right after a major holiday.
"Memorial Day is May 26 and that's typically the time of year we see donations decline," she said. "This will definitely help us get the blood supply back up after a major holiday."
Donors don't have to have an appointment to give blood at the drive, but the Red Cross recommends it.
To make an appointment, go to redcrossblood.org and enter the sponsor code "Realtor."
