City firefighters were sent to a working structure fire early Thursday evening off South William Street. One unit in a three-complex apartment building was heavily damaged when a fire broke out in the kitchen, but thanks to a quick response from members of the Goldsboro Fire Department, who quickly controlled the blaze, it did not spread to several adjoining units. The Wayne County Red Cross was called in to assist the family who lost their home. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
