The Third Annual Praxis Film Festival at Wayne Community College, canceled last month due to inclement weather, will take place next weekend.

Instead of the original format of a Friday evening and Saturday line-up, organizers say the same 21 independent and student films will be screened, with a filmmaker from Goldsboro added to the mix.

The schedule now will be Saturday from 10 a.m. until 10 p.m. and Sunday afternoon from 2 to 4 p.m., followed by a reception from 4 to 5 p.m.

A detailed schedule with film descriptions can be found at wayneccfaculty.com/filmfestival/.

The festival will offer shorts, full-length features, and documentaries in a flexible format that allows patrons to come and go as they please. The event is free and reservations are not required.

It also features six short pieces by student filmmakers from UNC-Wilmington and N.C. State University who will discuss their works, and movies from France, Germany, Ireland, Brazil, Spain and Israel.

Patrick Finan of Los Angeles, son of Tim and Diane Finan of Goldsboro, produced a 10-minute film, "Mr. and Mrs. Capulet," that has been added to the festival.

Other films with connections to this state include "Illusions of Grandeur," directed by a writer/filmmaker who studied at UNC Wilmington, and "Jimmy," which was shot in North Carolina and also has Goldsboro ties as the filmmaker, Gary Wheeler, has in-laws here.

The festival is sponsored by the Foundation of Wayne Community College, a non-profit organization that brings events to the campus each year and assists students in financial aid. During 2012-13, it awarded 265 scholarships worth more than $265,000.
