Mayor Pro Tem Chuck Allen characterized the Goldsboro City Council's approval of a site plan for Sheetz Monday as the city's next step in attracting high-profile businesses, but he still made it known that there are more restaurants in the city's sights.

"We're getting there," he told Planning Director Randy Guthrie after he discussed the site plan request, which seeks to locate one of the convenience store/restaurants on Spence Avenue at the former site of Uncle Yammy's Rib Shack and Captain D's.

Allen noted the recent announcement that Harris Teeter would be opening in summer 2013 and the opening of Olive Garden in October.

"All you need is a Red Lobster and a Panera Bread and you'll have it," he said.

In other business, the City Council approved the condemnation of five dilapidated dwellings that don't comply with the minimum housing code and the acquisition of right-of-way for the Berkeley Boulevard widening project.

The council also approved by consent the subdivision request from Habitat for Humanity for its property on South George Street, the authorization of four permanent part-time positions and the rescheduling of two council meetings in 2013 due to conflicts with holidays.
