Death investigation
A Goldsboro woman called police Sunday to report that she found her sister, Sandra Gayle Melvin, 59, 920 Fairview Circle, unresponsive. EMS Unit 61 responded and pronounced Melvin dead. The last known contact with the victim was by a neighbor at about 9:30 p.m. Saturday, and no known health issues were reported. Investigators were contacted.
Breaking and entering, larceny
Coors Pharmacy Inc., 1103 Wayne Memorial Drive, was burglarized Saturday. Thieves cut a hole in the roof of the establishment and escaped with $60 worth of prescription pharmaceuticals. Damage to the ceiling was estimated at $900.
Assault with a deadly weapon
A man and a woman were engaged in an argument on Hugh Street Saturday night when the woman was struck in the back of the head with a bottle. The victim was treated at Wayne Memorial Hospital and the assailant was served with domestic violence paperwork and warrants were filed.
Dog attempts bite, is killed
Christopher Sobel, 41, 216 Pine Circle, told Goldsboro police he found a stray dog in his back yard attacking his dog. Sobel retrieved a shotgun from the home and went to scare off the stray. The dog growled and charged at Sobel and Sobel fired. The dead animal was taken to the Wayne County Animal Shelter, which disposed of its body.
