Movies scheduled at Paramount

Goldsboro residents will soon be able to enjoy movies at the Paramount Theatre.
Movies will start in August and run periodically through February.
"We are excited about the chance to show movies," said Sherry Archibald, director. "It's another way to get patrons to visit the theater. It's likely that we will be able to bring individuals who don't know about the performances offered and, thanks to the Paramount Theatre Foundation and our sponsors, we have a nice new projector and a large screen to enjoy."
But it's more than just about sitting down in the Paramount and watching a movie on the big screen.
"It's about reliving our past," Mrs. Archibald said. "I can't tell you how many people I've heard say, 'I used to come to this theater and watch movies all day for a quarter.' Our memories are precious to us and while I want the past generation to relive them, I hope a future generation will be creating them."
Although there will eventually be more movie nights at the Paramount, for right now, only four are scheduled.
The lineup includes "True Grit (1969)" Aug. 21 at 7 p.m., "Ghostbusters" Oct. 25 at 7 p.m., "It's A Wonderful Life" Dec. 18 at 7 p.m. and "Groundhog Day" Feb. 1 at 7 p.m.
All movies are $5 and children 12 and younger will get in free for "It's A Wonderful Life."
"We hope to feature more Westerns in the summer months to come, but we are testing the waters this year," Mrs. Archibald said.
She noted that at the showing of "True Grit" one moviegoer and Paramount supporter is organizing a "gunfighters" group and trying to get those attending to go in costume to get into the western spirit.
Mrs. Archibald also said that the Paramount has no intention of competing with local movie theaters to show current releases.
"But if we can create an experience for our patrons that will have them coming back and embracing the arts, we've accomplished something big," she said.
