Members of the Wayne County Sheriff's Office are investigating the death of a local farmer after an apparent accident in a Goldsboro field.
James Tyndall, 46, of 109 Swine Road, was pronounced dead at Wayne Memorial Hospital Saturday evening.
According to an investigation report, Carroll M. Strickland Jr., 49, of 148 Swine Road, was helping Tyndall unload grain when sparks flew from a trailer -- throwing the farmer to the ground. Strickland called 911 and by the time first responders arrived at the scene, Tyndall was unresponsive and bleeding from the mouth. Attempts were made to revive him by emergency medical personnel but he was pronounced dead on arrival at Wayne Memorial.
The investigation is open pending an autopsy.
