WCC Phi Beta Lambda students at leadership conference

Members of Wayne Community College's Gamma Chi chapter of the Phi Beta Lambda business education student association are participating in the organization's 2012 National Leadership Conference in San Antonio, Texas, this week.
The conference is allowing the 20 student delegates and club adviser Michael Everett to sharpen their core business skills, expand their networks, and participate in more than 55 business-related competitive events.
This year's delegation is the largest the chapter has taken to a PBL conference. Every delegate had to qualify to participate by competing at the annual State Leadership Conference in Charlotte in April, at which they earned first place in five different events: digital video, desktop publishing, telecommunications, computer game and simulation program, and help desk. They also finished second and third in six other events.
WCC's students are among nearly 2,000 college students showcasing their talents as future business leaders and vying for the opportunity to win more than $90,000 in cash awards.
Among those competitions is "Computer Game and Simulation Programming" which WCC Simulation and Game Design students Jacob McCullough and Sarah Van Horn won last year with an advertising game called "Success Express." McCullough is returning to defend his title with new teammates Chrystle Mealing and recent SGD graduate Shelby Bigham. A second team comprised of first-year students Andrew Howell, Jeremy Honeycutt and James Braswell are competing as well.
Phi Beta Lambda is the postsecondary division of Future Business Leaders of America-Phi Beta Lambda, a nonprofit education association comprised of students preparing for careers in business and business-related fields.
