Chain businesses and restaurants have been flocking to Goldsboro recently as the city has received word since last summer that Olive Garden, LongHorn Steakhouse and now Harris Teeter will be opening locations in Wayne County.

Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen is expected to open by Thursday on Ash Street at the former Five Lane Subs location, with the next big restaurant opening expected to come late next month.

A spokesperson for Darden Restaurants Group, the parent company of Olive Garden and LongHorn, said LongHorn will open in late July and Olive Garden is expected to open in October. Both of those expected opening dates are sooner than initial estimates from Darden.

The newest announcement, however, came in late May as Harris Teeter's corporate office in Matthews signed a lease to bring one of its grocery stores to Memorial Commons on Wayne Memorial Drive.

According to a release from Casto, the management operation of the shopping center, the 53,000-square-foot store is expected to open in late 2013.

Construction on the store is expected to begin this fall.
