One-stop voting starts Thursday

Goldsboro voters will elect a new board and mayor during the July 17 primary election, but other than those races, the only other ones on the ballot are for a handful of state, and mostly Republican, primaries.
The candidates for the nonpartisan city races are:
*Mayor: Al King (incumbent), Henry Jinnette
*District 1: Michael Headen (incumbent), Kyle Pritchard
*District 2: Bill Broadaway, unopposed
*District 3: William Goodman, Ben Farlow
*District 4: Rev. Charles Williams (incumbent), Clark Tondalayo
*District 5: Chuck Allen (incumbent), unopposed
*District 6: Fran Kasey, Gene Aycock.
Polls will be open countywide from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. on election day.
One-stop early voting for the election will start Thursday at the Wayne County Board of Elections office, 209 S. William St. The dates and times are:
*June 28-29, 8 a.m.-5 p.m.
*July 2-3, 8 a.m.-5 p.m.
*July 5-6,8 a.m.-5 p.m.
*July 9-13, 8 a.m.-5 p.m.
*July 14, 8 a.m. - 1 p.m.
July 10 is the last day to request an absentee ballot by mail. The request must be in writing and submitted to the Board of Elections' office by 5 p.m. that day. The ballot must be returned to the Board of Elections' office by 5 p.m. July 16.
Four of the five statewide races are Republican:
*Lieutenant governor: Dan Forest, Tony Gurley
*Commissioner of Insurance: Richard Morgan, Mike Causey
*Secretary of State: Kenn Gardner, Ed Goodwin
*Superintendent of Public Instruction: John Tedesco, Richard Alexander.
The sole Democratic primary is for Commissioner of Labor between Marlowe Foster and John C. Brooks.
Unaffiliated voters who voted Democratic in the first primary, may only vote Democratic in the primary. Unaffiliated voters who voted Republican in the first primary, may only vote Republican.
Unaffiliated voters who voted Unaffiliated in the first primary, may not vote in the second primary. However, unaffiliated voters who did not vote in the first primary, may vote their choice of ballot.
