Although not yet a done deal, Harris Teeter appears to be prepping for the opening of a Goldsboro store, according to a photo of an internal memo posted on Facebook.
The Facebook group "Bring Harris Teeter to Goldsboro" has emerged as a forum for discussion about the possibility of the grocery store opening in Wayne County and even garnered a post from the official Harris-Teeter Facebook account back in December confirming plans for a store to open in 2013.
That post was removed and deemed erroneous by Danna Jones, the company's communication specialist, who runs the corporate social media accounts, but the latest post, which contains what is claimed to be a photo of a flier advertising full-time positions in Goldsboro at the Harris Teeter store in Wilson, has been confirmed by two employees at the store who asked not to be identified.
The two said the memo was intended for internal use and to inform current employees of the Wilson branch about the new store and new employment opportunities in Goldsboro and was not intended for public dissemination.
The flier says Harris Teeter No. 115 will be coming soon to Highway 70 and Wayne Memorial Drive and includes a paragraph about possible full-time positions at the branch, telling employees to keep an eye on the company's online employment board for available positions.
The location for the new store has been rumored widely to be Memorial Commons on Wayne Memorial Drive at the site of the old Nichols Shopping Center near Office Depot.
Harris Teeter's corporate policy is to not discuss store openings unless a lease has been executed for a future site. Ms. Jones said Friday there were no executed leases for locations in Goldsboro, but seemed to suggest that more information might be available this week.
